A traditional English bullace - a variety of plum which bears edible fruit similar to those of the damson. Shepherd’s Bullace produces a heavy crop of large yellow, round to oblong fruits. Golden yellow flesh, often a little astringent and not very sweet, sharp in flavour. The fruits are best left on the tree for as long as possible. Good for cooking into pies, puddings and gin! The exact origins are unknown but it was very popular in Kent and Essex. Believed to be of English origin first recorded in 1892. Good for culinary use only.
